Go Green Charleston Hotel Scorecard
Chad Norman, from Go Green Charleston, recently put an inquiry into local hotels as to how green their operations were. The result? Not too great. Check out the Go Green Charleston Hotel Scorecare below. So what difference has this done? Well already, I saw a local hotel representative show up at Green Drinks to talk and discuss ways to be more eco-friendly. That's a great start.
Go Green Charleston has broached a larger and long-standing issue in the "green industry" - eco tourism. Tourism to the United States has increased 41% since the 9/11 low (ITA 2008), and Charleston is a popular destination amongst domestic and international travelers. Over 79,000 tourists (exluding Canadians and Mexicans) visit the Lowcountry every year, spending an average of 2.6 nights and $595 USD per party (SC Dept of Parks & Recreaction 2008). The impact that our local hotels can have through simple, cost-effective initiatives could be dramatic. Have thoughts on how hotels can be more green?
