Commercial LEED Project Tour

WPC Engineering (LEED NC Gold)
Roger Noyes, Director of Development for The Navy Yard, commented that this building was originally scheduled for demolition because of its conflict with the new Navy Yard road system. WPC and LS3P were impressed with the "concrete, Art Deco design of the building," and came up with a "creative solution to remove portions of the old building, which is the ultimate in sustainability, while having their corporate headquarters reflect one of their core competencies in concrete structural design." |

The Noisette Company (LEED CI)
The Noisette Company LLC offices and the Noisette Urban Alliance Studio (NUA) received the first USGBC Pilot Program LEED CI (commercial interiors) certification in South Carolina. Keith Sanders, President of the SC Chapter, believes the Studio's certification "brings green renovation to the mainstream of existing buildings and is setting a new standard for green restoration" |

North Charleston Elementary School (LEED Silver)
A renovation of the 1922 2-story building became South Carolina's first LEED certified school. Preserving original brick and heart pine, 86% of the construction waste was diverted from the landfill. Students are able to learn first hand about sustainable features and experience this buildings high performance every day. |

Hunley Waters (EarthCraft Gold Certified Community)
Homes at Hunley Waters are eco-friendly, featuring EarthCraft Level 2 certified homes. EarthCraft building standards will help promote the conservation of natural resources, thus protecting the delicate ecosystems along Noisette Creek. Obtaining EarthCraft certification can increase the energy efficiency of a home up to 35 percent, and reduce the level of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere by 1,100 pounds per home. |

Oak Terrace Preserve (EarthCraft)
The December issue of Green Builder Magazine, a publication of the Cincinnati, Ohio-based Green Builder Media Company, has named the City of North Charleston’s Oak Terrace Preserve green neighborhood as one of its first annual “Home of the Year Awards”. Oak Terrace Preserve is the only neighborhood named among 12 winners located throughout North America, and one of only two projects in the Southeastern United States to receive the prestigious honor. |
