Moisture intrusion is one of the biggest threats to homes in our area.  This workshop will cover all of the needs-to-know of "bottom to top" moisture issues and challenges found in residential homes in our climate.  Topics such as best practices for dealing with crawlspace moisture, common indoor air quality issues, proper air conditioning and ventilation techniques, and mold and bacteria as it relates to moisture intrusion will all be covered.

This presentation will use Oak Terrace Preserve as a case study to provide the perspectives of the local government, developer, engineer, homeowners, and science community in the implementation of LID practices along the Southeast coast. This discussion will include the partnership between the developer and local government, overview of LID design and installation, discussion of economic constraints, lessons learned in the construction and installation of the LID practices, homeowner perceptions, and future needs for LID implementation along the Southeast coast.

The Building Envelope: A Comparison of Structural Insulated Panels & Insulated Concrete Forms to Traditional "Stick" Framing, David Hill, The Verdi Company

Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) are a wood and foam composite panel building system that is strong, quick to erect and very well insulated and sealed. As an alternative to stick framing, SIPS can be cost effective when all factors are taken into consideration. This presentation will look at the materials, assembly, cost factors and performance of these two systems, including a comparison of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) to provide information on which approach delivers the most Green "bang for the buck"

The Home Energy Rating is a certified Home Energy Rating System assessment that scientificiallyidentifys areas of leakage and energy loss. Information on blower door and duct blaster tests, energy conservation, energy modeling and baseline assessments will be covered.

This presentation is divided into two main areas: first is a discussion of the issue of water and its importance to our communities; second it describes two primary opportunities to help conserve water, manage stormwater and reduce runoff effects.
