The Sustainability Institute offers a range of energy conservation services to help homes become more sustainable and environmental friendly.

This service is a personal energy consultation on how to maintain and upgrade your home to be more energy efficient. Home consultations will last between 1-2 hours and include a one-on-one home inspection with a qualified trained SI staff member who will give a verbal assessment of the home's building envelop, identify areas of energy loss or waste, examine water efficiency, heating & cooling systems and appliances. The consultation will also include an informational packet and will qualify you for a 10% discount on our Energy Kit Toolbox. Cost is based on an hourly rate.

The Home Energy Rating includes a certified Home Energy Rating System assessment of your home by identifying areas of leakage and energy loss. The HERS assessment will provide a blower door and duct blaster test to identify the highest priorities for energy conservation. This rating will result in a personalized S.I. report to assist you in home decision-making processes. A HERS rating can also qualify you for an energy-efficient mortgage. Cost is based on square footage and is conducted by a certified Home Energy Rater.

The design review for homes is a service that The Sustainability Institute offers to examine important design features of homes planned for new construction or renovation. This service is offered for the pre-build or design phase of your project. Considerations for energy conservation, indoor air quality, moisture control, and structural integrity will be evaluated. Specifically, plans for various systems and construction approaches including site conditions, building envelope and wall systems, mechanical systems, insulation type and levels, materials selection, energy efficient upgrades, ventilation techniques and other indoor air quality considerations will be examined. A software-driven analysis will enable our consultant to project energy savings based on design choices.
Architectural drawings and specifications are required and clients should be prepared to take notes. Fee is $50 an hour for consultation, and typically 1-2 hours are required to inspect plans prior to meeting with clients and making recommendations.
